LA has so many things to do and the weather is usually great.
There is Hollywood, Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier, Melrose, Amusement parks, movie studios to visit, etc.
California knows how to party.

There is EVERYTHING to do in California! If you like the outdoors, camping, hiking, etc. there are many great places to go, such as Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Big Sur, Redwood National Park, and more. There are many great spots for skiing and snowboarding too.
I love the beaches, and California has great towns and cities on the ocean all up and down the coast. My favorites are San Diego, Laguna Beach, and Monterrey. The town of Avalon on Catalina Island is a great place to take a vacation.
San Francisco is a great city. There is so much to see and do there, it’s beautiful, and had great character.
There’s plenty to do in California! I think it’s a great place to vacation, and I think I’m lucky that I get to live here.

In San Francisco there are the world famous streetcars, the california sea lions and Alcatraz owned by the U.S. Parks Dept. for years there has been talk of closing Alcatraz or private industry taking over to refurbish the decaying property, it’s still in good shape so seeing it as is may not be an option for the near future see it while you can. Chinatown is cool Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, you can watch cookies being made by hand, Golden Gate Bridge, if athletic you can bike across and there are museums. Best reason of all for parents to love, public transportation is excellent you will not need a car! Their public transportation is almost as good as Boston’s, I’m sure you’ve been there, if not what are you waiting for Boston is the best city to visit (I live in N.Y.)
San Diego, like animals and beaches? This is the place for you San Diego Zoo Wild Animal Park, Sea World and beautiful beaches the downside, public transportation is not as good car may be needed and if you rent one it will cost $$$$, I’m assuming you are under 25yrs old

(1) The weather is the best; (2) historical landmarks and architecture tours (see the SF Heritage Foundation), (3) whale watching in places like Monterey; (4) some of the best art museums (SoMa, also the Academy of Science and History in the Park) (5) GG PArk is huge and filled with great events; (6) CRAZY good and diverse food at reasonable prices is easy to find; (7) you don’t need a car in SF; (8) Alcatraz is a fun thing to do, just book in advance in better weather! And that’s just SF — LA is filled with possibilities. As always, travel safe, preferably with a friend, and never go to someone’s house who you just met (but that’s a duh point, right?)…

Everything from San Francisco south is geared towards entertainment or supporting those in entertainment. The entire state is an amusement park from the point of view of the rest of the country. And to cap it off, California Girls and Surfer dudes depending on your choice.

There are lots of things to see and do. Everyone so far has listed what -they- like, but it depends on what you like. I would say redwood forests, the Sierra Nevadas (Yosemite Natl’ Park), driving up the coast from San Francisco, stuff like that. But all the big cities have great things to see and do.
And that’s not why you’re coming. You’re coming because you’ve seen your coast and now you want to see the other coast! You’ll find it’s very different. And the things that most surprise you, the things you like best, the best memories you take with you, are all things you probably aren’t even aware of now! I mean, you can read all about California but the place will still surprise you. It will be a learning experience. That’s why you want to come.
Nothing to do in California? That’s the funniest thing I have heard all day. California easily has the most things to do out of any state in the Union. San Francisco is like no other city I have ever been to. You cant beat the culture and diversity in this town.
