It is the Coriolis force.
Due to the earth’s rotation, in the southern hemisphere ocean currents move in a counter clockwise motion, drawing warm air from the tropics south to Brazil,Argentina and Uruguay. While in The Pacific Ocean, the Coriolis Force draws cold water from the Antarctic to Chile, Peru and Ecuador
