Is redwood national park a good place to backpack?
Redwood National forest in pictures looks amazing and my friend and I (both from Kentucky) would like to backpack in there for a couple of days. Is this a good idea or do you have other suggestions on where to backpack in California?

I certainly hope so ’cause I’m going in the summer. I’m already preparing myself for rain and fog and whatever the weather can throw at me. I think if I go expecting the worst and being ready to enjoy myself in those circumstances than a day or 2 of excellent weather will be a bonus.
Very Good. Not many people great trees, ocean, Fern canyon and the Gold Bluff beach trails are very good. Any of the trails in the redwoods are great. Steep hills almost mountains and the rare but worrisome mountain lions are the only problems. Avenue of the Giants, state park is also very good. For very hard core backpacking try the Lost Coast. It’s the area above hwy 1. It is cool and damp plan on getting cold and wet. Think Gortex. During the summer you have afternoon fog and morning sun wind will be on shore or out of the north. There are redwoods just south of Cresent City that have almost no visitors. Parking along the only rd., US101 is almost impossible. Makes it grand. There is a one lane road from US 199 leading to Cresent City you have to find. It is the old stagecoach road. I won’t tell anyone any more its one you have to find.
