Been to both.
It depends on what you want to do on your vacation.
If you want to do the amusement park thing – Florida.
If you want to hang out on the beach – Florida.
If you want to see natural beauty – Cal
If you want to do "city" things, museums, shopping, restaurants – Cal
If your into wine – spend a week in the California wine country.
San Francisco is in IMHO the most beautiful/interesting city in the US.
Los Angeles is the polar opposite of San Francisco.
The California coast is beautiful to look at, but not much for water sports as compared to Florida.
In the summer, Florida is very hot and very humid, California weather will be less of both.
Cal has the desert, the ocean, the mountains, dense forests (way up north). Florida is a big swamp surrounded by beautiful beaches and nice warm ocean water.

I say Cali all the way – you can do EVERYTHING there. Snow, sun, desert, mountains, Disneyland, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Fran, Lake Tahoe, Big Bear, national forests, Hollywood, Venice beach – the list goes on.
Florida (no offense) is one big coastline, & a very pretty one – but it doesn’t compare to Cali in my humble opinion. (yes I’ve been to both)
Either way you go, if you need a good hotel, check with a travel broker – you can usually find a good hotel deal & sometimes a Fun Pass that will let you do everything you want to do for FREE! Here is a site I know of and a few ideas to get you going, good luck! đŸ™‚
I would prefer California for the simple reason I’ve never been west of Missouri(where I live)
I’ve always wanted to go to DisneyLand, The San Diego Zoo and Death Valley. Also I want to see the Pacific Ocean. I’ve seen the Atlantic numerous times.
