Best cities/areas to visit in California for a romantic weekend vacation?
I am thinking about taking my boyfriend on a road trip up the coast. We live in San Diego so I want to head north for a few days. Some places I had in mind where San Fran, Catalina Island, San Simeon, San Luis Obispo. Anyone have any ideas? Oh and any worth wild places to check out, like I was thinking of going Hearst Castle any other attractions we should stop for?

If your trip is for only a few days, you had best narrow your options, otherwise you will spend all of your time getting to your destinations, and no time left to enjoy the areas.
I’d clearly suggest the Santa Cruz area. Monterrey Beach is excellent, the mountains between San Jose and Santa Cruz are great to cross. Actually, there is a great Nudist Colony in those mountains that is exceptional. Most likely you will never find it by looking for signs, or pictures, or all of a sudden noticing that many people have not clothes. You can only get there if you are invited to visit. And, if you make your visit, you are not allowed back again, unless you are invited back. They have several categories in which they assign your membership, based upon how you acted while you were there visiting. They range from Not Invited to Return, to Silver, Gold, and Platinum membership.
I’d say you can safely skip the nudist colony, and really enjoy Santa Cruz. It is a small, beach-side community, nice places to eat and drink right on the beach overlooking the waves, and the beautiful people.
My favorite place.

I once spent the weekend in Yosemite, then drove to San Francisco & took PCH all the way back to LA. Monterrey & Carmel were very nice, as well as Santa Barbara. Enjoy!!

Santa Barbara and Lake Arrowhead are both beautiful. San Fransisco is also very pretty but a long drive unless you are going to fly. Check out Hollywood if you’ve never been. Maybe go see a movie at the El Capitan Theatre or just looking at the Walk Of Fame. In Lake Arrowhead, you can go on water skiing lessons on the lake which is really fun. Check out this website for Santa Barbara: http://www.santabarbaraca.com/
For Lake Arrowhead, check out this website:

If you are going to Lake Arrowhead, about 5 minutes away there are cabins called Pine Rose Cabins: http://www.pinerose.com/index.php which are very nice to stay in and they are your own little cabin. I hope this helps!
head north on 101 and check out all the sites on the way. Go up to Eureka or head over to Fort Bragg or Mendocino. Its beautiful up there this time of year . Have fun
