How can I help my redwood tree survive?
It was root bound in too small of a pot and got a lot of brown on it because I forgot to water it. I repotted it in good potting soil that is OK for redwoods and watered it like crazy and some green is growing near the base, on a few branches and on the very top. Should I remove all the brown part ? There’s about 10% green. It’s about 3 feet high.
Should I have untangled the roots? They were very very tightly wrapped.

I have 4 redwoods in pots similar to what you described. You have to keep them moist 100% of the time. I water mine daily in the summer. They will not survive in any drought conditions. It is slightly possible that it may come around but I would leave the dead wood on it for a while until the fall or winter when it is dormant. Do not prune it in my opinion. Yes, you can tease the roots and unwind what you can (if they are loose). Try not to break them. These are used often as bonsai, so dont worry to much about it being root bound. The less stress you can put on it the better your chances of it bouncing back. I hope this helps.

HI THERE.
THIS IS JUST MY LAY MAN OPINION
YOU MUST NOT WRAP IT TOO TIGHT
THE WRAPPING ONLY IS TO GUIDE THE DIAMETER OF WHEN THE TRUNK WILL GROW
YOU MUST UNWRAP IT AND THEN REWRAP IT WITH A NEW WRAPPER
AM I RIGHT TO ASSUME THAT YOU HAVE BONSAI REDWOOD
YOU MIGHT WANT TO BUY A ROOTING FERTILIZER IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE DAMAGE THE ROOT IN YOUR TRANSPLANTING
BECAREFUL WITH THE BROWN STUFF — BEFORE THEY GET TOO BROWN AND DIES — YOU MIGHT WANT TO SPRAY THEM WITH A BOTTLED WATER WITH FERTILIZER ON IT
I HAVE AN AFRICAN VIOLET THAT I POTTED?
WHEN I BOUGHT THE AFRICAN VIOLET — SOME PART OF THE LEAVES WERE BROWN AS WELL AS THE FLOWERS
BUT I WANTED TO GROW AFRICAN VIOLETS ONCE AGAIN — AND THIS TIME OUTDOORS IN A SHADE
SO I BOUGHT THE ONE THAT I THINK WOULD LIKE ME AND I ALSO WILL EVENTUALLY LIKE
SO I PUT IT IN A NICE GLAZED POT WITH DESIGNS
AND WATERED IT AND PUT A ONE YEAR FERTILIZER ON IT AND IT IS STILL ALIVE
NOW ME AND MY HUSBAND WHO IS A GARDERNER HAD A MISCOMMUNICATION GAP
HE SAID HE WILL WATER MY PLANTS AND HE DID AT FIRST THEN HE STOPPED
SO I DOUBLED CHECK MY POTTED PLANTS — I NOTICED THAT THEY NEEDED WATER
SO I WATERED THEM
IN FACT — I NOTICED THE PLANTS IN POTS IN MY YARD — THEY WERE ALIVE BUT LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE GOING TO DIE — AND I DID NOT KNOW WHETHER MY HUSBAND IS TAKING CARE OF THEM OR NOT
SOMETIMES — THEY ARE JUST THERE — AND WE MIGHT HAVE OVERLOOK THEM
ME AND MY HUSBAND SOMETIMES PLANTS IN A POT — WELL MY HUSBAND ANYWAY — AND HE DOES NOT TAKE CARE OF THEM AND THEY STILL GROW
SO I STARTED TO WATER THE PLANTS ON THE POT THAT WERE BEING NEGLECTED
AND LO AND BEHOLD — THEY STARTED TO BLOOM
NOW I REGULARLY WATER THEM WHENEVER I WATER THE POTTED PLANTS THAT I PLANTED
THE OTHER POTTED PLANTS — MY HUSBAND PLANTED — EXCEPT THE LONG CACTUS — I PLANTED ONE THAT IT IS LIKE A LONG HANGING CACTUS
THAT CACTUS IS 6 YEARS OLD AND IT IS STILL ALIVE AND IT IS LONG AND IS HANGING FROM ITS POT
YOU NEED THOUGH TO LET YOUR BONSAI BREATH
SO YOU NEED TO UNWRAP AND REWRAP OR THE BODY WILL NOT GROW IN DIAMETER
BUT DO NOT LET IT GROW TO BIG IN A DIATER
SUPPOSE TO BE LESSER OF A DIAMETER OF A DIME
TRY TO GET A CERAMIC POT THAT IS PERHAPS SIMILAR TO A CIGARETTE ASH TRAY
BUT NOT REALLY A CIGARETTE ASH TRAY — BUT THAT KIND OF SHAPE AND LENGTH AND SO FORTH
GOOD LUCK

this may sound mean but take a sharp knife and cut the roots top to bottom of the root ball on both sides then re pot as you did then get a product called Superthrive the package is really strange but the stuff works water with it and spray the foliage
