What is the best vacation spot in Southern California?
I will be working in Irvine for two weeks and would like to go somewhere fun for the weekend in between. Are there any great towns or beaches within driving distance or would it be more worthwhile to go to Hollywood and L.A.?

San Diego. LA’s a freekshow, but San Diego is somewhere you can relax and still have fun.

Well, you are sure to have a good time in Orange County since they have the Irvine Spectrum. If you will be in CA before end of August, you can visit the nearby Laguna Beach Arts Festival, or Sawdust festival around the same time.
Sure, LA is a nice day trip if you MUST see Hollywood and the like…trust me it’s not a big deal, and I’d rather spend time visiting other areas of Los Angeles like the Downtown area, Chinatown, or Olvera Street.
To the south of Irvine is the quaint town of San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, and even San Diego!
California is great. Hope you have a great vacation…working or otherwise.

My family always goes to Disneyland, but another favorite is Medival Times in Buena Park, you can enjoy a dinner and show for a great price. While in Buena Park you can also visit the wax museum and Ripley’s Believe it or Not. I hope this helps!!
Santa Barbara is only 3 or 4 hours from Irvine. It’s great for beaches, nightlife (on State Street), and wine tasting (places in the movie "Sideways" were real).
