Honeymoon help?
So, when we got engaged last year, my mother in law said that she would take care of our honeymoon as a gift to us. She said that the only stipulation was that she would get to pick where we went for a week. She said she would make sure it was somewhere nice and run some ideas by us to make sure it wasn’t something we would hate. Originally, it was going to be Disney World. Then, California (like a road trip kind of thing), then Vegas, and then she said she would just give us a thousand bucks and her car and we could go wherever. The other day, she told my fiance that she didn’t think she was going to do our Honeymoon afterall. Our wedding is 2 1/2 months away. We are a one income couple with no extra cash. Ever. Now, I’m stuck with trying to find somewhere for us to go that is nice, but inexpensive. Any ideas? We live in Northern, Illinois, but we would travel anywhere as long as the price was right. I’m wondering about any all-inclusive resorts or well, just anything.

I would suggest camping at a national park. The beauty will make it romantic and often times there are showers etc.. so you aren’t truly roughing it. You could always rent an RV as well.

We went to a national park for our honeymoon and it was awesome–rented a cabin inside Yosemite and just went on hikes and exploring. There are lots of pretty places in Tennessee, the Carolinas that you could drive to. Best of luck to you. Sorry your mil jerked you around!
So many of my friends encouraged me to do a blow-out, once in a lifetime trip, but being with my husband was special enough…we just wanted somewhere we could relax.

Try a cruise, carnival is good because sometimes you can talk them down in their prices (I have before) they are all-inclusive and you can hang out on the boat all day and just have fun being lazy. Some islands even offer free beaches with like a $5 cab ride to and from the beach to the boat. Because its so close to the wedding, you might be able to get a last minute deal that are cheap, SOMETIMES. OMG, Good luck! I really do hope you find something quick.

i’ll be goldarned if i let my mother-in-law pick where i went on my honeymoon. if she does this imagine what she’ll be picking for you down the road. you’d better hope it’s daisies.
you need to pull your head out and take charge of your life — this one and the future one, or you won’t have one. seriously. that decision should be between you and your husband.

There are some BEAUTIFUL places on the water in Michigan… Grand Haven wouldn’t be too far for you… or even traverse city (further north). The great Wolf lodge has fun water parks and a honeymoon suite too!
If you want to go south… you could drive over to Myrtle Beach, SC or someplace like that… there is TONS to do there!
If you wanted to go to Vegas – they are always running GREAT deals on cheaptickets for flights/hotels!

2 1/2 months away is right about when I am getting married. If you have around 1,000 you can easily do a cruise with airfare to miami. We can only go from Monday to Friday so I just priced out three cruises that left Miami on Sept. 29 and I got this info for four night cruises on Travelocity
Norwegian Sky- 620.80 for inside and 820.80 for balcony
RCCL Majesty of the Seas-633.44 for inside and 1673.44 for balcony
Carnival Imagination-667.56 for inside and 1387.56 for balcony
All those were cabin total for two people. Airfare from Minneapolis was 245 to miami and taxi to the port is 24. I would imagine that you can do even better in terms of airfare to miami from Chicago. Take the money that you get from the wedding as fun money on the cruise.
Venice, Italy. It’s quite expensive, but it’s beautiful…and so romantic. My husband and I honeymooned there and have been back every year since. We fell inlove with the place, as I’m sure you would. You wouldn’t regret it.
If you are really stuck for cash, and don’t mind a chalet type accomodation, I could suggest a place that’s £13.00 per night – think that would be around $7?
Good luck!
