By the same means that any other tree carries water up its trunk. It’s hard to explain in short, but it’s a process called transpiraton that involves xylem(water conducting cells). Xylem carries the water from the root tip to the leaf, where it eventually evaporates. When the water evaporates, a sort of flow is started. It’s kind of like an assembly line. As the water in the leaf evaporates, more water moves in behind it. Because of this movement, more water is attracted into the root tip,continuing the process, because water is attracted to water. It’s a fascinating process, it’s quite amazing that water can move that high up just by transpiration.
