What do you think is the message in this quote?
Parrots, tortoises and redwoods live a longer life than men do; Men a longer life than dogs do; Dogs a longer life than love does.

I’D SAY EDNA HAD A VERY DIM VIEW OF "LOVE"…….MUST HAVE HAD HER HEART BROKEN 1 TOO MANY TIMES!

I agree, her view on love is quite dim. But I am sure there is more to it than just the surface, because there always is. It’s almost on the same line as "this too shall pass." Almost…
It could go beyond the surface: love is what happens at first, and then as the love–as in "new" love–passes we become complacent; we get comfortable with what is and move on from what was. This is not to say that a bond does not exist, but, rather it is moved beyond just love, or at least the excitable love that captivates us all. This is only the slightly less pessimistic view.

Love is fleeting. The rest just puts it into context.
She’s saying that love can be ‘short lived’, which means it doesn’t last long.
Definitely a jaded, biased view from an obviously unhappy woman.
