Where is the best spot in california to vacation as far as beaches are concerned.?

Well obviously any thing on the ocean would be fantastic, how about trying Donner Lake or Truckee or Tahoe, then you have the beaches, you have just about anything you might want within a few miles..
Monterey Penisula would be nice and go up Hwy 1
