What is the best area to stay at near the San Francisco airport?

What do you mean by "best area?" Access to things to do/public transportation? Safety? Short trip to the airport? Cost?

Burlingame is best, the city has all million houses and the hotel row is near the bay with free shuttle to downtown, Caltrain to SF. Most hotels are luxury hotels
But you can get $29 budget hotel in Oyster bay area

Redwood City has a lot of nice hotels that are safe, clean, and right on the water of the bay.
The only bad area is far north up in the Bayview Area of San Francisco. All the areas around the Airport itself are safe, clean and have rather high standards.
