Should I purchase an RV or trade in my minivan for a truck and pull a trailer camper?
generic Misoprostol without prescription canada This isn’t in the near future, but the next time my husband deploys, I’m thinking about homeschooling the kids for a year and traveling the country, camping in or near national parks. I want them to see the redwoods and Yellowstone and all that. I haven’t thought much about it; I’m just starting to get serious about it. Any thoughts? Also, who wants to let me camp in the driveway for a week?

Fantastic idea. You will NOT regret it! You have the ideal background for it as well, being a teacher and all.

I think the RV is a better idea because pulling a trailer with a truck is not a piece of cake and makes for a long rig which is often banned on roads where you want to go. Consider a class C motorhome which is not much bigger than a fullsize van, so backing and parking is relatively easy. You can strap bikes on the top, back, underneath, or inside for short trips from a base camp. Good exercise too.
You can find them cheap. Chevies & Fords are easy to fix and maintain.

Another good thing about the RV is that your kids can sleep or do whatever while you are driving. It is illegal for occupants to be in a trailer while you are towing it, so they’d have to be all crammed in the truck cab with a trailer rig.
Also a 25′ to 30′ Class C motorhome will fit in most driveways and parking spaces.

I’ve had a 38ft RV,, It was awesome having it but, If you don’t have a vehicle to tow along; it’s a pain to drive it everywhere you go; be it the grocery store or wherever you need to go. I switched to a fifth wheel and love it even more.. You can drop it at the campsite and go on you merry way driving to all the parks your heart desires..

Sure, you can camp in my driveway, but can an RV cross the ocean to Australia?

You are welcome to stay in our driveway as long as you want.I can teach them how to work in the garden,play in the woods and how hot it gets in Alabama in the summer time.We do have a pool ya’ll can use.

I’d go with Satan if I were you in an RV. You don’t need to tow a car. That’s ridiculous. If you want to be portable, a Class C is the way to go. You will get about 12 city to 20 highway mpg. If you use a truck and trailer rig, count on 5 mpg and a big hassle.
Stay compact, light, and take only what you need. Learn to live without tons of crap. Use a bike trailer/buggy system for grocery store trips or just drive the RV to the grocery store and load up your fridge in the parking lot. You can even leave the kids in there while you shop. I think they are old enough.
I found it cheaper to camp in a trailer and have a truck at your disposal.
Pulling a small car behind a motor home involves upkeep on two engines and drive trains.
You guys can stay with me on your way to Yellowstone, I have my own water and electric hookups, WiFi with cable and a dump station a block away.
