How about Thompsons Water Seal.It seals out the weather,plus you can re-apply it per instructions.
Redwood is one of the most weather resistant woods in the world. For low maintenance (some people do nothing and like the aged look) but for others, the color is best retained with a good varnish like Marine Spar. The pain of any of these treatments, Thompson’s included, is it must be repeated every year or two.
