How much dose it cost to renovate a garage that's pretty much useless?

The garage we have now is pretty much useless it is sliding to one side. Can anyone give me an approximate quote and any references to good contractors i believe we need someone with license to do the job right? I really don’t know how to go about to do this job. I can’t give you costs as I am in Canada, but starting with getting some quotes from general contractors with experience willl give you head’s up about the alternatives you have with the set of circumstances you have there. Here in Canada it could easily cost $5,000.00 to do it right and from scratch from beginning to end. Go to your yellow pages, I am sure there are lots of contractors out there and just ask what they do and have 3 or 4 come out and give you a price. You will then know more about what it is you really want, how much, and to what extent you want to go to. Also get references of other jobs they have done. Go and look at them or call them and see what sort of craftmanship they presented.

You know, the easiest thing you can do is to call home remodelers in your area and get free estimates from them as to the cost involved in constructing such a renovation. This is the only true way of assessing the cost involved, as the cost of material and labor greatly varies by location; so what one person says here on Yah does not get you any closer to understanding what costs are involved in this project without the use of local contractor estimates.

Like I said, get a hold of some local remodelers. In exchange for giving them work, you also might be able to get a good deal on the material from the remodeling contractor, since, usually, they have access to wholesale pricing on building materials given the great amount of installations they do.
