Does anybody know about a group called "friends of the fragile shores" in Humboldt County, CA.?
I hear that they oppose converting the railroads into biking trails.

Yes.
They are the only group in the Humboldt Bay area that actually has a plan that balances environmental restoration and preservation of heritage. They oppose the plans for ripping out the old railroads (still in use by historical groups and planned to be restored by the State) which is sponsored by monied interests from Southern California because of the serious damage that change would cause. Rather they want to stabilize things where the damage was done years ago and restore habitat by removing invasive plant species that choke out native vegetation.
They are planning much more than just a logical restoration of railroads however. Their plans include combining biking and hiking facilities with features which will enable the handicapped to enjoy the environment. They also want to provide facilities for the homeless who are in the area and reduce the environmental damage (a lot of it just garbage and human waste) left behind by both the homeless and the bikers and hikers.
We are encouraging governmental agencies to listen to these people who don’t have developers behind them
