hmh I realli suggest a car but if you choose one area of LA like say Huntington Beach or Long beach then you can just use the bus to get around but then you don’t get to see all the sight’s. If you don’t have the money to get a rental car then choose a couple close sights that you’re intreseted in and find a cheap hotel like best western or travel lodge and use the bus to get around. But if you can def rent a car, LA is huge!

I would highly suggest checking out Southwest airlines for airfare and looking into Holiday Inn’s or Motel 8’s.
Despite the other reviewers’ advice, you don’t need to rent a car to get around here. LA is a big city and the public transportation system can pretty much take you anywhere you want to go. For example, the subway stops at Hollywood & Highland and Universal Studios and there is a metro bus that takes you to Disneyland from downtown LA. Go to metro.net which is the website for LA’s public transportation, download the map of our subway system and you can even do trip planning all on the site. The downside to our metro system is that it can be slow so make a list of what you want to see and plan your days in advance so you can make the most of each day.

Try Burbank

This sounds ideal for an on-line hotel, air fare, rental car package with a good big discount….Burbank is not a bad idea at all (see above). To see the things you will want to see I would recommend a car….the idea of toting luggage on public transportation which doesn’t go where you want to go and is hard to figure out makes me sick…
You also need a rental car because if you try to take the bus, you will not see a lot. All the attractions are a long way apart, sometimes hours on the bus.
With airfares up a lot, really, it is not enough money if you have to fly in from more than 1000 miles away.
