Does anyone out there want to go to the Redwood Forest?
I want to go see the huge sequoia trees in California. I really want to go camping within the forest, & take a lot of photos, looking up. Then I want to paint paintings from them. Any ideas? Anyone done it before?

I just came from both Big basin state park and Portola redwoods state park. Both places have lots of redwoods. Now to the See really big redwood, go to Muir woods in Marin county, but they don’t have camping there. Another park close to Muir woods where there is camping is Samuel P Taylor state park. A really nice place to camp in the redwoods. The there is the avenue of the giants up north in garberville. For the sequoia’s, try Yosemite. Best camping ever in California for the sights.
The giant redwood grove closest to San Francisco is Muir Woods National Monument (only a few miles north of the Golden Gate). You’re not allowed to camp inside the grove itself.
However, there’s a campground at Pantoll Ranger Station. It is about a half mile hike to the woods. And if you get there before the tour buses from San Francisco arrive (10 AM), the scenery is as good as the larger National Parks. Mornings at Muir Woods are tranquil and spectacular. Once the horde arrives, it can get very crowded though.

You’ll need reservations if you wish to camp at Pantoll. You can make a reservation online here.

If you want to go to those huge National Parks (Redwoods NP and Sequoia NP), the drive from San Francisco will take 5 hours minimum.
