Where is the best stay near the redwood forest?
Family of five, we have three children 10, 12, and 15. It will be at the end of July and the beginning of August. We would like a safe and fun place
We will be driving from LA to Portland Ore.
Three children 10, 12, and 15. Safe and Fun.

I personally like the Portola Valley Redwoods campsites for camping. It’s off of Highway 84 and pretty secluded. It’s an unknown gem because to get to it you go through barren hills before your reach the beautiful forests. There are nice hiking trails, creeks, and with a 30-45 min drive you can be at the beach. Because it’s so secluded and how it’s arranged I don’t think you would have an issue with your kids wandering off on the trails around the campsite. The rangers are nice and the bathrooms are really clean. On the way to the beach there are cute little towns that have awesome baked goods. Archenghelli’s (Sp?) deli in Pescadero is amazing. They have great fresh baked artichoke bread.

I loved staying at the Miranda Gardens cottages on the Avenue of the Giants in Miranda.
They have all sizes of cottages right in a redwood grove. Some have kitchens.
They have a heated pool, b-ball court, playground and nightly campfires.
They are located right at the entrance to the Humboldt Redwoods state park.

Oct09Bill Daul Randal,Thanks for publishing my note. I guess Steve’s spiirt has now shifted from Earth to the Universe and beyond. I assume he will be opening the Universe’s first Pan-Galactic Genius Bar.[]
It is a large area to consider. Where in California do you plan to be?
Since you will be traveling the whole length of where Redwood trees naturally grow, I recommend going to where the biggest ones are:

I think this link provides info on places to stay locally.
