I’m from England and have just booked to stay at the hilton garden inn times square with my boyfriend for a week in july. Look at http://www.tripadvisor.com – it’s got really good reviews and I think it’s something like 26th out of all the hotels! I’ve been to nyc a few years ago when I was 16 and that was at the end of march, I remember the weather changing from one minute to the next, sometimes it was quite cold and I had to wear a winter coat but then the next day it would be quite warm. Enjoy your trip, I’m so excited!
All the hotels you mentioned are okay, but maybe stay away from the Empire…just go with the one that is cheapest with a good rating. Trust me if you planning on going clubing your gonna need the extra cash.
Manhattan is overall safe, dont go by what non new yorkers tell you, it really isnt dangerous here, jus dont go all the way uptown to washington heights unless you’re with someone that knows the area. Try Latin Quarters, Mansion, Krash, Gatsbys, SOB’s, or you can hop around Soho…look into Williamsburg in Brooklyn as well.
BBQ’s on 42nd street is very good (nest to BBKings) also Dos Caminos on 3rd ave by 59th street. And you must visit South Street Seaport.
It isnt thhattt cold usually in March, a sweater or a normal jacket usually is okay.
