Where to stay in the San Francisco area?
I will be making my first trip to San Francisco for Memorial day weekend 2009. It will be me, my brother, and our cousin who range in age from 21-25, so money is limited. I work for Hilton Hotels and need to stay at one of their brand hotels to use the employee discount. We would like to see Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Winchester mystery house, ect. Also, we prefer not to rent a car. My hotel choices are as follows:
Hampton Inn in Daly City
Homewood Suites in Brisbane
Hilton Garden Inn in South San Francisco
Embassy Suites in Burlingame
I was just wondering which of these would be the best choice for some of the attractions we’d like to see, centrally located with easy access to the transit systems, and how easy the transits are to use. Any ideas?
I know that all of these hotels are outside of the city, I was unable to book at the employee rate at any of the Hilton properties in the city and these are my only options. Just wondering which one is closest and will be easiest to get to and from the city. Have a friend in Monterrey who will be here for a day and has a car to drive to the Winchester house.

None of those places are in San Francisco. The only one that is reasonably near public transportation is the Hilton Garden in South SF. You would need to take a shuttle to the airport and then take BART for about $5 each way into the city. There are several Hilton properties in San Francisco proper – I’d look into staying there unless you want to spend most of your day schlepping back and forth from your hotel into the city. Renting a car is a bad idea as parking in the city is difficult and expensive
Oh yeah – the Winchester Mystery House is in San jose which is about an hour drive south of SF – forget about visiting there unless you have a car
