A good vacation spot in the central California area?
Yes, Lady Bug. Peace and quiet is good.

Monterey or San Luis Obispo. They’re both wonderful little towns full of great food (especially Monterey), near the beach, and lots of outdoor activities.

I second the Dude. Monterrey is great. Monterrey/Carmel area is gorgeous. You can even stay in Salinas for a deal on rooms (very short drive, very different price)
Also, if you like wine check out Napa or Sonoma. all the hotels in those cities will have buses that take you to wine tours. no DUIs!

The places that I’ve visited that were enjoyable: Yosemite National Forest, Bass Lake, and Sierra Summit Ski Resort. These places are great if you’re into nature and things like camping, fishing, hiking, and skiing.
Shaver Lake, Huntington Lake., Kings Canyon.(Giant Sequoia Trees).. Big Sur.. there’s tons of places..:-P
Like the others said. Monterey is good too, but sometimes it can get too crowded.
My guess is you want to go to a quiet peaceful place right? 😀
