Iam looking for a pice off burl wood to make a coffee table?
The wood could be about 3 " thick & 3 or 4 foot around’ maybe with bark still on the 3 or 4 inch edge I will do the finish work , and any type of wood with a nice grain redwood would be nice but I think cost would be to much.

Fly to North CA and go 4WD in the forest, look for downed trees.

Contact several tree surgeons in your area and ask if they have any trees that will be coming down soon. Frequently there lots of wonderful pieces of burled wood that is chipped or split into firewood. You will have to soak the blank in a Poly Ethylene Glycol or Pentacryl to prevent splitting as the wood dries. If you do not cure the wood in this manner you can be sure it will split and ruin a wonderful project.

look in the phone book for the exotic wood dealer nearest you, take your big wallet, that’s a thousand dollar stick!
Well you have picked the most expensive piece of a tree to make a table from.I would suggest you use some plywood and veneer if you think redwood is to much you will not like the other choices.Ever since wood turning has become big in this country you can not find burls without paying out the a-s-s for them.
