Is there an Orthodox community near Redwood city California near San Francisco?
I may be going to work on a project at EA (the game company) in Redwood City California. It’s about 20 minutes south of San Franciso. It would be for more than a week though, so I was wondering if there were any shuls (synagogues) around the area. (Orthodox ones.) Also, do they have kosher food available? And what is the kosher symbol on food in California?

The symbol for Kosher would presumably be a box with a KSA in it, with some bebrew lettering underneath. This is the symbol for the Kosher Supervision of America based out of Los Angeles.
As for the congregation you are looking for, I don’t know of one specifically. But youcould contact the local Jewish Community Center there, located in Palo Alto, CA. They should be able to direct you toward a good orthodox community.

The San Francisco Jewish Community Federation serves the entire San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Their Guide to Jewish Life in the Bay Area lists 4 Orthodox congregations in Palo Alto (7 mi S of RWC) and 1 in San Mateo (8 mi N of RWC). To see more details go to: http://www.sfjcf.org/resources/guide/
Also, check out their kosher restaurant list at:

Here is an article that contains a picture of the 4 most common kosher symbols on packaged food in the US, including California:

(There are multiple certifying organizations, and circle-U means certified by the Orthodox Union).
Hope that helps. Enjoy your stay in the Bay Area!
