Is it bad to top a very very tall redwood tree?

You have two choices,Be overwhelmed by a giant or kill it by topping it.Who the hell would plant a red wood in suburbia.

If it’s got to go, it’s got to go. I’ve seen a couple that have had the tops knocked off by wind or lighting and look a little gnarly, but alive. RScott
Yes, it is bad to top any tree. Long-term weakness will result, which can turn your once-beautiful redwood into a hazardous tree. If the tree is in the way of something, it may be better to remove it. Consider a consultation with a local certified arborist.
