Try the Ventana Wilderness going in from Big Sur. 12 miles in is Sykes Hot Springs, a naturally occurring hot springs right on the edge of the Big Sur River. There are camps along the trail at four miles, 5 1/2 miles and 8 miles. The portion of the trail to the Hot Springs is heavily traveled, 2 miles past the Hot Springs is Redwood Camp along the Big Sur River, this area is hardly used at all and would be a great introduction to an undisturbed Redwood Forest. You can get info. from the National Forest Service office at Big Sur.
I don’t know of many backpacking trips in the redwoods. You might consider a trip to the Lost Coast / King Range.
You can find some 2-3 day trips in Point Reyes, but you’ll need to go mid-week as the weekends are all reserved. Wildcat Camp on the coast is very nice.
The best 4-5 day backpacking trips are in the Sierras. You’ll have to wait a while for the snow to melt this Summer.
