Where to find new Vanagons in San Francisco Bay Area?
We had a Vanagon at one time, purchased new at a Redwood City dealership. We drove it 11 years in SF, and got between 13 – 16 mpg.
We went to an auto show, and was told by a manufacter’s representative that Vanagons were no longer being produced.
Lately we have seen many Vanagons around San Francisco. They look like the old aircooled types — very few, if any Eurovans — and they seem to be in very good condition (at least from the sound and the appearance..
Where can we purchase a new one locally? Or are they all used?

there are no new Vanagons, and they stopped calling the van a Vanagon in the early 90s. the newer ones were called Eurovans, and they stopped making them in 2004.
they had a prototype van that was sort of a throwback to the earlier loaf vans of the late 60’s. it was the ugliest thing i had ever seen, and i was hoping for a good looking Volkswagen van.
i have a 1987 Vanagon Syncro GL and i totally dig it. it can go just about anywhere and has a queen sized bed in the back. i dont worry about it getting dirty or scratched. i use it to take garbage to the dumps. it’s a great all purpose vehicle. i upgraded the power and put a subaru engine in, it makes it so much more enjoyable to drive…i can actually pass people!
I purchased mine from a guy selling it on thesamba.com. i see vanagons for sale on craigslist all the time.
