Can you stain a deck over new stain?
Yesterday we started to stain our deck with a California Redwood oil based Solid stain, I really don’t like the color. Can I get a different stain in a solid color and go over it? Need answers soon! Thank you!

Certainly! Provided, of course, that you use a solid stain. If you use a lighter color, covering the darker stain might require 2 coats, but there is no reason that you can’t do it.

Read the can- most deck stains only require one coat- stain penetrates the wood- if there is no more room for stain to penetrate it will sit on the top. You may need to wait.

This doesn’t do you much good now but you should have tested the stain in an inconspicuous area before going all at it. The end result will vary based on what type of wood you have. Also you should be sure your new deck wood has completely cured outside before staining or painting.
Having said that, stain does penetrate the wood and even professional furniture refinishers will tell you you can’t always get all the color out. It seeps into nooks and crannies you can’t sand away. They do have various chemical solutions you can apply which will boil most of the stain out. I’ve used Zip-Strip on a 20 year old cradle and it worked very well. I’m sure there are plenty of other products available specifically for outdoor woods as well. Good luck next time around!
Yes, but you’ll have to go darker, not lighter.
You might sand the area a little, too.
