I have heard that if you go to Humboldt State University, you do not really need a car if you live on campus?
Is that true?

There are few universities where a student who lives on campus needs a car, but I would certainly prefer to have a car if I were a student at a relatively isolated campus such as Humboldt. A student can get by without a car there, however.
It depends on what you like to do. If you want to do outdoorsy things like camping, rock climbing, surfing etc, it would be best to have a car. But the plaza (downtown) is only about a 15 minute walk from campus and even shorter on bike. If you don’t bring a car, you should definitely bring a bike.
Last year I didn’t have a car and was fine, but this year I brought my car. It’s definitely handy, but also annoying because parking is more than $300 a year.
