What time does it get dark today (July 4th 2009) in Redwood City, CA?
I wanna know what time we’ll be able to start playing with sparklers.

If sunset is at 8:33pm then complete darkness wouldn’t come until well after 10pm. Near the summer solstice there is about a 2 hour period of twilight (defined as the period between complete darkness and daytime) in middle latitudes. Though the darkest half hour of twilight is usually pretty subtle, especially in places where the northwest/northeast horizon is obscured or where light pollution is significant.

Hmm… it should be dark now… its midnight
Sunset time there is at 8:33 PM PDT, and it gets quite dark about a half hour after that, so around 9 PM PDT.
ADDED: Kronner 82 is technically right in that it will not be absolutely dark for a while after 9 pm, but that time is about the beginning of what is known as Nautical Twilight, where it is too dark to see well without artificial light. It should be dark enough for sparkelrs and such at that time.
