I don’t know where Redwood City is but if you look for "Friends of Animals" in your internet browser, you can find out where their accepted Vet locations are located near you.
Otherwise you can look through the phone book and call a local vet and ask questions as though you were interviewing them for a job (which you really are). Ask if your cat needs to stay overnight, will someone be there? If you wanted to visit your cat while there, could you do so? How long have they been practicing? How much experience have they had in neutering any animal? What are their prices and then check other vets to compare. Make up your own questions. Good Luck.

The Peninsula Humane Society is VERY proactive about getting pets fixed. Have you checked with them? I am sure they have a clinic as they do here in Marin and in San Francisco.

The San Mateo Humane Society or the Palo Alto Animal Shelter has a very reasonable fee spay/neuter. Females are a bit more than males as the surgery is a bit more complicated. Rabies shots are about $10-12 and a real value which they would probably need to do at the same time for safety reasons. I believe I paid $45 or $50 for my male cat last fall.

There are organizations that rescue cats and tries to find homes. If you put in your area, and what type of cat you ‘want’, you will probably find dozens of groups that handle stray cats. Then, simply call several to find out who they work with. They might even be able to arrange a discount if that is crucial. I have put the website in as a link in the source box.
(Yes, you pretend you want a cat, and you will find out who has them. This is sort of a reverse look up for you, as you already have two cats.)

Getting on http://www.petfinder.com and searching for rescues in your area will give you a good directory of local, knowledgeable people that should be able to point you in the right direction.
