There's a possum in my house that we can't catch! My mini dog is trying to catch it!?
I live by the redwoods, and there is really a live, wild possum hiding in our home. It has done plenty of damage to our home, during the nights. My teacup toy fox terrier tries to catch this critter, and corners it, but, we still can’t catch it. It is dangerous, to start with, and I fear my little pound and a half or so dog will get killed by it. Any suggestions?

get a BB gun and shoot at it every time you see it
i dont think that a bb would actually KILL it if you are far enough away, but if you want to get a soft air gun
it will get tired of being around your house and getting shot at that it might leave
or call animal control. but that will cost you

Have you tried setting a Hav-A-Hart live trap with some sardines, tuna, ect in it for bait? They usually work. If it doesn’t there are places that actually come to your house and catch them.
For now just make sure your dog is not near the possum. If you have to put the dog in the bathroom or a crate.

Lock the dog in a bedroom overnight. Rent or borrow a live trap (havahart) and put it near the last spot you saw the critter and bait it with a can of wet dog food. In the morning, put the cage outside in the shade and cover it from the sun. Release the possum in the evening, preferably at least a mile from your house and away from a road. If you don’t catch him after a few tries, call animal control. It’s unlikely the animal is rabid but possums can give a very nasty bite. Good luck.

You need to obtain a "have a heart" trap and bait it with food and trap the oppossum. Once trapped you can relocate it yourself or have animal control relocte it. Once it is out of your house…you NEED to block off the entrance in which it got into your house.
Call animal control. Possums carry diseases like rabies and fleas that can carry bubonic plague.
