How long is summer vacation for kids in California, especially in San Diego?
my grandmother just visited my uncle in san diego. and she told me that my cousin’s summer vacation isn’t the usual 3 months that I have. She said that they don’t have that. And she was informed by my cousin, with this information and he goes to school. Is this true or is this just in my cousin’s school. My cousin lives in Chula Vista by the way. and he doesn’t go to a private school also, so can anyone help me ?

For most schools the summer vacation is 3 months long, however some schools have a year long schedule, but they spend less time in class each day.

Many California schools have what they call a year round schedule, where they get a coupla-three weeks off between quarters instead of an entire three months off in summer. This is done so kids don’t have too much time on their hands during summer vacation and get into trouble (bored kids tend to do that). Also, kids can forget what they learned the previous year over a long three month vacation.
The long summer vacation was originally necessary, because the kids had to help the family work the farm through the summer. But, there’s really no need for that any more, particularly in California cities. So, the school districts have been phasing out the long summer vacation in favor of the year-round school sessions.

it depends on the school district. most of the schools except for a few in chula vista are year round. meaning they start school in july go for a few months, have 3 weeks off in september, have 3 weeks off for winter break, go back, have 4 weeks for winter break, and then have 4 weeks off for summer vacation. during the break in september and spring break they offer intersession which is just like summer school, but in the middle of the year since they do not have enough time in the summer. that is the year round schedule.
the normal traditional school schedule has students starting in early september (after the holiday) and in class until december where they have 2 weeks off for christmas, then a week off for spring break, and almost 3 months off for summer.
It all depends on what school you go to. I have a regular three months off, but my friend, who goes to a different school than I do, gets much less, like a month and a half. Plus, she has to go to school longer in the day. However, she has much longer breaks. Her spring break right now is four weeks long, whereas mine is only one.
