What can you tell me about Eureka CA or the surrounding areas?
I plan on going to College of the Redwoods simply because its more isolated than other colleges I’ve visited. I’ve been to Eureka but I don’t really know the area.

There isnt much to tell. Eureka-Arcata in Humboldt county is kind of economically depressed. The weather is kind of depressing in winter being near the coast. It is not that far from the Oregon border. There is a Cal state university there.
Well CR has a beautiful campus and I loved going there, but there really isn’t much going on. It rains for a good 6 months straight in the winter/spring and is overcast the rest of the time. You might hit 70 degrees as a high in the late summer for a couple weeks. Eureka is a dump. It’s filled with meth addicts and the people there are utterly depressing. Arcata is smaller and just to the north of Eureka. This is where HSU is located and it’s got the liberal college town vibe. There are exactly 2 traffic lights in town lol. It has a better variety of dining (lots of vegetarian and vegan friendly places to eat) and a younger population. Lots of psuedo hippies running about too. Arcata-Eureka is very cut off. It’s 3 hours from the nearest largish population in either Oregon or Ukiah. In my experience, Arcata, Eueka and the county have HORRIBLE public transit. If you are attending CR make sure you have a car. CR is outside of Eureka and you can’t get to and from there except by the highway. There is a bus line but there are 1-2 hours between arrivals at that stop either way.
