From San Francisco, how far north would I need to drive to see the redwood trees?
I don’t necessarily need to drive to Redwood National park, do I?

Muir woods is only about 12- 15 miles north of the city.
If you don’t want to leave the city the Transamerica Building has a redwood grove next to it.

It depends on which redwood trees you want to see. If you want just redwood trees, then Muir Woods is perfect. If you are looking for those highly, popularized redwood trees (giant sequoias), then you will need to drive a good few hours more.

Yosemite also has three groves of redwoods.

The redwoods at Russian River are gorgeous. It’s about an hour from San Francisco. You first cross the Golden Gate Bridge, which is so fun.

You can do an easy walk amongst redwoods here:

You can drive through forest all the way to the coast. It’s wonderful:

The whole area around Guerneville and Russian River is so beautiful!
Muir Woods is about 10 +/- miles from S. F. and well worth a trip to see the magnificent redwood trees in that park. Take a Camera a enjoy walking along the paths.
