for building a wood fence what wood will last longer, redwood or cedar ?
no part of fence will be in dirt. I have heard that the smell or oil in cedar will keep bugs & termites out

I’d go with cedar but it’ll cost ya.

Redwood is more expensive, but also more durable than cedar. It needs to be sealed.

Cedar holds up better.

Redwood is more durable, seal it real good with Thompson’s or something similar, and it will last your entire life. Cedar is OK, but Redwood is better, and looks nicer.
Owned my own fence company, specializing in wooden fences.
Redwood has a slight advantage. Greater when in contact with soil. Both are very durable.Sealer will extend appearance but not greatly extend useful life.
