Where is the best place (be specific) to go and look at the redwoods of California?
The trip is planned for late October and I would prefer that it be as accessible to a major city as we will have to fly in.

Muir woods! Right across the golden gate from sf. There’s also a cool town called "canyon" in the east bay.

If you want to go WAY up north of San Francisco, on US 101, there’s a town called Leggett. This place features some redwoods so huge, someone cut TUNNELS through them big enough to drive cars through.
Good Morning Tom R.
I hope you are having a great week. I just rolled in from five days in Las Vegas. I hit them big time with my bet on Boise State. And my wife is from Virginia.
I do a lot of camping, fishing and hiking in the Mighty High Sierra Nevada Mountains. In fact, I started in the early sixties. I have been three times this year. If you want to see redwood trees, why not see the most beautiful, the biggest, and the best?
The last thing I did before leaving for Vietnam, I talked to and prayed beside General Sherman. After all not even fire can destroy a redwood. The very first thing I did was thank God and pray beside General Sherman after I returned to the states.
In your life you will talk about and forget many things about your experiences in life, but I guarantee, I repeat guarantee, you will never forget and talk about your walk through God’s country. That is what I call Sequoia. Is it worth it? YES!!

The closest airport would be Fresno. No! you would not be able to walk. You would still be 70 miles away. You can drive or bus within a few hundred yards. Good Luck. Have a nice trip. Peace, from Los Angeles.
