Looking for help with our Road Trip Honeymoon?!?
My fiance and I are getting married in April 2011, and we are planning to leave on our honeymoon the 2nd week in May. We are taking off for a couple weeks and going on a Road Trip! We live in South East Michigan and plan on driving into Northern California, driving South on the Pacific Coast Highway until L.A. From there we will spend a few days in Vegas and then Head back Home. We don’t necessarily plan on stopping everywhere for a couple days…we mainly want to drive South on the PCH for the views…I hear they are incredible. I would like our main stays to be a couple days each on a couple beach cities and a couple days in Vegas. The rest we will just be stopping, sight seeing, etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions for us??? Places we just HAVE to see, restaurants along the way we HAVE to try??? I really appreciate any input.
Thanks ( :

Dear Jen:
You are going to have a memorable road-trip!
Before you get to Northern California~
see if you can reserve a slot at YOSEMITE!
This is NOT to be MISSED! It’s The Cathedral of Nature!
While in The San Francisco Bay Area~ Tour Muir Woods!
Go North to the Wine Country & Tour Sebastiani
& the many Wineries there. After having Fun in
The City drive South down Hwy-1 to Monterrey/Carmel.
Visit The Aquarium on Cannery-Row & walk the Beach
in Carmel. Have Brunch at "The Highlands"! Visit Big Sur
& walk around the Parks. The views are AWESOME
on The Coast! There is really NOT too much in LA to see~
but you might like Disney, Universal Studios or Magic Mountain
Theme Parks. You might like Venice Beach & Santa Monica!
Driving to Vegas~ try spending some time at
The HOOVER Dam! It’s really remarkable.
Congrats on your Engagement!
Have FUN!
I have done all of the above & had a BLAST!
If you’re into nature I would definitely go through the badlands, yellowstone, and grand teton. Then you could go through Salt Lake and check some things out on your way to Northern California. I would check out the redwoods there too, which I hear are incredible. There are a lot of really nice beaches along the coast, such as Sonoma Coast State Beach by Bodega Bay, Pismo Beach, and of course there’s Long Beach and everything else there too. Since you’re going to Vegas take a trip to the Grand Canyon, but go to the South Rim (about 5 hrs) unless you do a motor coach tour to the West Rim (about 3 hrs). West Rim is an Indian Reservation and I went there on my own – I would never go without a tour again. (If you do the South Rim I would do it on your way home and overnight. You can take the Railroad from Williams up there and overnight at the canyon too. While in Vegas check out the sites within the hotels, such as the shark reef in the Mandalay Bay and go to the top there one night to the bar and just have a drink or whatever and watch the strip all lit up at night. Also, go to Fremont St. in downtown Vegas one night.
If you don’t want the boring drives "from here to there" get a round trip ticket into Salt Lake City or somewhere central like that and rent a car for the driving part of it. You can take a shorter trip or spend more time doing what you want on your trip.
I’m not a huge restaurant fanatic so I can’t help you much with that one. If you’re a AAA member you can get the tourbooks which will have the rated restaurants and pick out a few from there. There are a lot of 4 and 5 star restaurants in that area.
