Colleges.ugh.decision time.help!please?
im deciding between sonoma state and humboldt state.
my mom wants me to go to sonoma, mostly because its closer (about an hour away).
*the pros:
close to home
sunny weather
nice dorms
better reputation
*cons:
-Rohnert Park (the town its in) is sooooo boring!it’s deff not a college town. its in the suburbs and all they have is like a bunch of chainstores. i HATE that kind of environment. and i heard the town is full of a bunch of old people who always call the cops
-commuter campus..half the people leave on weekends, which means i probably will. but i want to go to a college that will be my HOME not a home away from home.
Humboldt
pros:
-downright beautiful campus and area. redwood trees everywhere.
-the smell of fresh, clean air (lots of trees=more oxygen)
-people there are SO nice! just a bunch of chill people
-dont need a car because most things are within walking distance
-residential campus–it will be my home. and i hope to live in that area after i graduate.
-the town is very college friendly–its a college town! lots of college-centered things
-in general, i just love the town its in (Arcata, CA)
-the food is mostly organic and fresh (grown right in the area)
cons:
-bad weather–it rains most of the year :/ (although i dont really care)
-when people think humboldt, they think weed
im not too concerned about the reputations because im going into nursing and they dont really care where you graduate from, employers care more about the grades you got.
ugh!!so hard.
do i go to a school i downright love and cant wait to go to even though it rains
or
do i go to a school my parents favor thats closer to home and has nicer weather?
what would you do in my situation?

I would go to Humboldt. You should go to the college you feel happier with, your parents will understand.

choose the one that has more pros

even though your mom wants you to stay close, you cant live close to her forever, so you need to start now and just be out on your own. If it doesnt work out you can always transfer, but it sounds like you like that place more and you are still considering Sonoma because you dont want to hurt your moms feelings and you are still doubtful if you are ready to be completely on your own.

Go where you want to go, you’ll be happier.
Humboldt sounds awesome with the redwood trees and the organic food. I think that is where I would pick. It sounds like you would have a better college experience going there, and if that’s where you want to live after you graduate, then living there in college is a great way to test out whether or not you would like it.
