Would having a job make me happy?
Hello, my name is Tim, I’m 16, and I live in northern California. Summer vacation has just started for me. I have problems with my mental state though I can be happy, and I’m usually nice to others but I can be really bipolar and have a bad temper at times, but I don’t do anything bad really.
I’m wondering, do you think a teenager who may have some problems like out of touch of reality and whatnot would be happier with a job? I’m sure most of you know that CA’s economy sucks and is hard to find a job, but I’ll try to find one, and my dad may help me find one in a chemical plant he works at.
I wouldn’t have too much of a problem with socializing with others in job though I can be a little slow and may stutter, but that’s it. I think having a job may build my confidence and may make more of a purpose for me rather than a weird kid who just sits on his computer. People say I’m talented and funny but I don’t know if that’ll help with the job.

Having a job and making your own money is single-handedly the most rewarding thing you could try at your age. You’ll meet new people, learn new things, make money, build confidence, begin to network with others who may open up avenues for you later.
You’re on the right track bud. True, working can be a bummer…. but as opposed to doing nothing, learning nothing and making no money, it’s a pretty solid gig.

Nothing external makes a person happy. Happiness is an internal thing.
However, having a job gives a person a sense of accomplishment and purpose. It does give one confidence. Plus getting a paycheque is really nice!
You would really have to watch your temper at work. You don’t get time outs there, you get suspension without pay or fired. There are policies against behaviour disruptions and outbursts. You are paid to do a job according to the job description, as directed, and in a safe manner. The company exists to make money. Cost them money and you’ll likely find yourself out the door.
It takes discipline, self-control, and persistence to get and hold a job. Having and keeping a job means it’s time to grow up and step up to the challenge. It’s totally worth it though.
And yes, having a sense of humour is a must in the work world. Practical jokes, joking around, wasting time do not.
Good luck!

Hey chief , I think a job will help you out greatly. It gives you something new to do everyday , meet new people ( end up making friends , girlfriends ) , it teaches you about responsibility and you get cash in you pocket at the end of the day, week or month. I also think it will help with your emotional disorders , the more time you spend with people and get to know them the more relaxed you will be around them. Go for it and wish you the best of luck now and in the future.
Its great to have a job. I am 59 now and have been working since I was 15. It gives you something to do. You will meet new associate and maybe even some friends and you will have a lot more money. Believe me it beats laying around all day doing nothing. Now that is depressing.
