Looking for a quiet vacation spot in california at the end of the summer.?
Usually I go to a quite place like jenner (along the russian river) or cambria. I am looking for an inexpensive place to rent for a few days, for a larger family. Just looking for cool and quite, to relax from the city. Preferably not longer then an eight hour drive. Thanks

Eight hour drive from where? LA, I presume. But the Russian River threw me off, since that’s further.
Mammoth is a good choice. You should be able to make it in about 6 hours.
How about Jalama Beach? That’s pretty secluded.
Huntington Lake, on the western side of the Sierras, is a nice, quiet mountain town.
If you’ve been to the Russian River, then you might as well go to Tahoe… it’s wonderful.

For a quite place i would say go up to big bear or out to palm springs. Its not that far and they have little areas that are so nice and quite.

You mentioned Cambria, very nice. But on the coast just north of Morro bay is the coolest little beach town where we stay; Cayucus. Try a funky little place where we stay, Blue Dolphin Inn and price is right (dogs welcome too). Some cottages have kitchens. You may need two. Nice quiet beach, a pier, antique stores, all levels of restaraunts (diners to posh), all within walking distance.
A great location as a base for day trips….to Cambria, San Simeon (Hearst Castle), Morro Bay, Big Sur, Madonna Inn.
A fabulous mini chain of cafes in the area (not actually in Cayucus but nearby are 2 or more)…Marge’s Diner; great food.
June Lake or Fort Bragg
