My 22mo old daughter will wake up screaming in pain…?
here is our story…about 2 1/2 months ago my daughter started waking up after naps and in the middle of the night screaming and inconsolable for more then an hour. we took her to the Dr and they checked her ears and said she had an ear infection, gave her antibiotics and sent us home. about a month after that she began getting sick again when we were on vacation in California. we thought it was just from the change in environment from Florida to northern California and maybe some new allergies were starting. after a week and 2 days and us arriving back home she was still ill, and getting worse, low grade fevers and still waking up crying, again we went back to the DR. the and she had a really bad double ear infection and a cold, this time amoxicilin for antibiotics for 10 days. 7 days finished of drugs, and she was no better, now she is waking every night screaming and crying and not able to calm her for more then an hour. this time i call the on call DR in the middle of the night, they say it doesn’t sound like an emergency, but to take her in the next day during business hours. so again we go back, they recheck her ears and one is healed the other is almost healed, no answers for in the middle of the night screaming. OK, just so everyone knows my daughter has slept through the night since she was 3 months old!! and up until a few months ago now she was sleeping 10-12 hours a night, and was a happy girl! now after that screaming continues for another week in the night, we call the on call again, and they basically tell us the same thing, take her to our pediatrician in the morning. so we call and make an appt, and take her in they checked her blood work, white cell count is fine, no anemia, no clue!!! we go back again, in another week, and they tell us that they think it may be pin worms, and give her script for meds to rid her of pin worms. two days later she seems to be better, so we go about our week. then tonight after waking from a nap the screaming starts all over again, in the fetal position, tight stomach, inconsolable for more then an hour, won’t eat, screaming to the point of deafening us because she wants to be held and is clutching us so tight like her life depends on it. and if we are not holding her she is curled up on the floor in a ball screaming. after about an hour and a half she is finally calm again, and is now eating jello. BTW no fever or vomiting or diarrhea. but she did have all that a week ago. i am concerned cause i do have a 3 month old in the house, and i pray whatever it is isn’t contagious! please if anyone has answers, or alternatives i can take to my Dr to check for please help us…sincerely, mother in desperation to help her little girl!
we asked about the night terrors to our pediatrician cause i thought the same thing, and he said it should be accompanied by low grade fevers, vomiting or diarrhea.
i forgot to mention i think, cause i am at such a loss, her stomach is hard as a rock during all this even if she isn’t screaming it does not un-tense for an hour, and she is still having 1 -2 BM’s per day.

I know it sounds like I ammaking something up but it could be growing pains. We went thru it with our son and around the time he hits a growth spurt he will still do it and he is 5.
Sounds like night terrors to me. They’re pretty common in kids this age and there’s nothing you can do for them aside from let them pass. If she’s had bloodwork done and it comes back normal, then there’s not anything a doctor’s going to be able to tell you other than to let her ride them out.
