winter vacation with teen kids in california?
i wanted to take my kids who are 13 and 15 on a winter vacation this December. i want to rent a house for a week. kids would love the snow. none of us know how to ski or snow board but would love to learn. also would love a place with other things to do besides playing in the snow? northern California would be great. thank you.

I agree with Peedlepup – Lake Tahoe is a wonderful choice for your purposes! Well known for its ski resorts, it’s the perfect place to learn, whether you’re interested in alpine skiing, nordic skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, terrain parks (for jibbers & jumpers), snowmobiling, ice skating, sleigh rides, and dog sledding, and just plain ol’ playin’ in the snow! (See http://www.discovernortherncalifornia.com/lake-tahoe-california.html for more information.)
It’s also home to Squaw Valley, host of the 1960 Winter Olympics, the Heavenly Gondola, & the Heavenly Flyer (a zipline); just don’t expect to ice skate on Lake Tahoe – the lake’s too deep & there’s too much water movement for the water to freeze.
While you won’t want to take your kids to the casinos for gambling (sorry, Guys, you gotta be 21), there are always concerts & events happening, plus dining & shopping!
I hope you have a wonderful vacation – Tahoe is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful any time of year!!
Try the Lake Tahoe area. The casino’s of Reno are only a short drive away. The BEST winter sports area is Mammoth Lakes, but it’s quite an expensive area and very isolated from other areas.
