If you mean the National Parks, they are about 300 miles away to the North.
But there are Redwoods in the City too,
The towering redwoods that rise above the Woodside area gave the city its name and also provided early industry, as lumber was cut and shipped to San Francisco via the deepwater port formed by the Redwood Creek.

No, it isn’t. Redwood City is located in San Mateo county, 25 miles south of San Francisco. I have relatives that live there, and I’ve visited them many times.
The redwoods are located several hours north of San Francisco.

There are redwoods pretty close. I think it’s a misconception that you have to drive for hours to see some beautiful big trees. Try:
Purisima Creek Redwoods also in San Mateo County:

Butano SP, also in San Mateo County and Portola Redwoods SP

Big Basin in the Santa Cruz Mountains: http://www.bigbasin.org/
Also, Muir Woods in Marin County: http://www.nps.gov/muwo/

There are some redwood trees in the area, but it’s not the famous California redwood forests.

I lived in Redwood City during my elementary and high school years. At that time I saw a photographic exhibition at the public library of the Redwood City Redwoods taken prior to their being logged. The trees were the largest Redwoods that I have ever seen. The information provided in the exhibition claimed that they were the largest Redwoods ever discovered.
Today, there are modest sized Redwoods along Edgewood Road in Redwood City. These are secondary growth from the original trees and the largest are approximately seven feet in diameter and 120 feet in height. Similar trees can be found in the nearby towns of Woodside, Menlo Park and Atherton.

While attending elementary school in Redwood City, California. There was a one week camp for 5/6 graders, located in the “Redwood Forest”. I’m trying to recall the location of the forest this camp was held at. We had cabins with bunk beds and mess hall for meals. 1980-1981 is/are the yrs i attended the camp. I remember this as the Redwood forest, but really unsure of the location. I no longer live in California but would like to return to visit with my family. Any suggestions?

There are Redwoods in Griffith Park, in Hollywood
Old growth redwood trees, like the one that you can drive through, are a few hours north of the Bay Area. So, Redwood City is not close to those unless you are comparing it to Florida.
However, there *are* lots of redwood forests near Redwood City. There are redwoods in the hills going all the way up the peninsula. A lot of them are in protected lands or parks, and are a short drive away from Redwood City. Redwood City is no closer to the redwoods than, say, Palo Alto or Half Moon Bay, so if you are specifically looking for redwoods you don’t *have* to stay in Redwood City.
