Go to the giant redwood forest, Yosemite ( a magnificent park), the streetcars in San Fransisco, China Town in San Fransisco, the Napa Valley if you like wine.

Where in California? How old is "the family"? What kind of things do you like to do?
We will be there visiting our son who lives in Mountain View. We usually expect him to plan the weekend activities (and usually find that he is clueless), so we always have a list of things that we want to do.
After spending the weekend with him, we are planning to drive down to the Monterrey peninsula for a couple of days of sightseeing. On the same trip last year we went to Napa/Sonoma.

Coronado Island in San Diego is one of the state’s best!!! I just heard that the Cherokee Lodge Bed and Breakfast Inn has two cancellations, which is rare, everything is booked up for months. Awesome parade and fireworks.

How about Humboldt redwoods state park?
Take an auto tour of the giant redwoods along the Avenue of the Giants and stay in Miranda gardens cottages-beautiful, peaceful, awesome!
