CHRIS has a good answer. Sonoma county stretches from wine country to the coast 2 hours away. So you should decide what you like, the redwoods near the coast where it is cooler or the vineyards where it is warmer. Sonoma the town has the Mission Inn and Calistoga has mud baths. There is also the Silverado Golf Resort. It depends on your budget and what kind of setting.
There are all kinds of vacation rentals in Sonoma County and basically have three themes – coastal, along the Russian River and ‘Wine Country’ homes. Any of the three will most likely also provide redwood forest settings or proximity thereto. The Russian River Chamber of Commerce is a good source for listings from Forestville all the way out to Jenner. Google Sonoma Coast or Bodega Bay vacation rentals for ocean view properties. Homes come in all sizes and shapes and offer different amenities. For February, forget about amenities like river docks and canoes and look for a place that can accommodate your party;that has a fireplace and a hot tub. You may want to inquire about cell phone usage as it is very limited in some areas and some carriers work better than others if that is important to you. Also, you may want to consider Sea Ranch which is a very unique coastal development with many vacation rental homes but it can be pricey.
