The Pepperwood Motel (452 S. Main St.) has existed at least since the late 1930s. At various times it has been known as Pepperwood Auto Camp, Pepperwood Auto Court, and Hampton’s Pepperwood Court. For more information and a 1981 photo, see Diane Hawk, Touring the Old Redwood Highway: Mendocino County (Hawk Mountaintop Pub., Piercy CA, 2001), p. 75.

Cute little cabin we rented in the middle of nowhere. Was a perfect size and very private with the beauty and silence of the woods all around.

Our friends Martine and Hilary live in this little cabin at the top of the Santa Cruz mountain range in a town known as Skylonda. The cabins were built from lumber cut during the big lumber rush in this area at the turn of the century. Moslty built as summer cottages for people living in the city, they are now permanent homes. It has one tiny bedroom and another even smaller that Martine uses as an office. Big living room with fireplace and tiny kitchen with dining nook, but a lot of windows that make every corner a delight.
