Transportaion from LGA to Madison Square Garden?

If i’m arriving at LGA and staying at Holiday Inn Express near Madison Square Garden, what would be the best way?
I understand that I can take taxi, limo…etc but I was thinking taking public route like bus or the subway.
So if i take the bus, if someone can give me the exact route and what to take to get to the hotel. And also, i will be arriving on noon Friday and wondering how long it will take.
However, i will be carrying one luggage. so i’m not sure if the bus may be inconveninet as well.
this will be my first time in NY and i’m trying to save money and willing to sacrifice to certain degree but wish to enjoy the visit.
All your feedbacks would greatly be appreciated!
thank you!

Four California Vacation Spots Kids Love

Four California Vacation Spots Kids Love

We won’t even bother with the obvious ones: California is absolutely full of theme parks. And let’s not waste time reviewing Disneyland and Six Flags. You don’t need a review to tell you whether your kids will love theme parks.

Rather, we’ll try to focus on the other California vacation spots kids love. It seems that, after the theme parks, California is full of vineyards which, let’s face it, bore the heck out of anyone under 21 (depending on how rebellious the teens are, that is). However, California has its share of family friendly spots where you won’t find anyone dressed as a cartoon character.

A Brief Disclaimer:

Keep in mind that none of these places are guaranteed to delight each and every kid in the world, as each kid has different tastes and interests, but we’ll try to provide enough variety that you can find something that seems custom tailored to what really gets your kids excited.

La Brea Tar Pits

What makes the La Brea Tar Pits and the attached museum so appealing to kids is the sheer dramatic entertainment value provided. More than just a bunch of dusty relics with plaques explaining where they came from, the museum is full of millennia old skeletons, animatronic displays, stuffed saber tooth tigers and audio video presentations on ancient life. You can even watch an archaeology team in progress on some days. It’s the closest you’ll get to a dinosaur theme park without any roller coasters.

Los Angeles County Art Museum

This one depends on the kids. Some kids would go nuts over an art museum while others would just go nuts with boredom. If your kids are the artsy types, the LA County Art Museum can really have a positive impact. The art is collected from all over the world and in the traditional styles, with very little in the way of abstract or modern art. Here you’ll find three stories of classic European and Asian sculptures and paintings, as well as some more recent works from Norman Rockwell and other American artists. For a young artist, it’s a religious experience, but for anyone else, it’s kind of a snooze.

Redwood National and State Parks

Along the coast of northern California (rent a car and drive the coast if you can) you’ll find the Redwood National and State Parks area, one of the natural California vacation spots kids love, covering more than a hundred thousand acres. This whole area of California is sort of a Mecca for American nature lovers. It’s home to the Sequoia, perhaps more commonly known as the California Redwood, the largest trees in the world. The scenery is breathtaking, and the area is home to several endangered species including northern spotted owls, Steller’s sea lions, and the bald eagle. This is one of the best places you could hope to take an outdoorsy type of kid.

Hollywood, CA

Everyone loves movies, but if you plan a trip to Hollywood, a brief warning may be in order: If you’re bringing kids, visit the Grauman’s Chinese Theater, the Walk of Fame, and the Wax Museum, take a picture of the famous sign and call it a day. These parts of town are very cool, the rest – not so much. Many of the famous landmarks have been destroyed. Of course, if you know which spots to hit, this can be one of the California vacations kids love.

Where should I go on a vacation? I currently live in Sacramento California?

I’ve been working here for two years and haven’t taken a vacation yet (I have been to a couple of work related conferences though, but that is not a vacation). At the most, I’d be willing to spend 00-2000. However, I think I could have fun for as little as 0. I’m considering Reno, Las Vegas, the Monterrey Peninsula, or somewhere in Mexico that’s beautiful and by the beach, but I’m open to all suggestions. Help me plan my trip!

Humboldt or UC Davis? No one seems to be able to help me?

I am pretty dang sure I’ll get into Davis, and like 100% I will to Humboldt. But can you justify why you would make that decision?
I know it’s early, but if I had those as my only two choices, which one should I go to?

I’m majoring in life science stuff (ecology and evolution, zoology)
what the hell? Why did my additional comments and original info get switched? That’s never happened to me before!

Adding an Arbor or Trellis to Your Yard

Adding an Arbor or Trellis to Your Yard

If you are a home gardener, and you’re looking for a project to tackle this summer that will enhance your garden and your home’s curb appeal, consider adding an arbor or trellis to your yard.  Whether in the back yard, garden, patio, or other area, an arbor or trellis will create an ambiance and charm that is well worth the time and investment.  The following are some questions and factors you may want to consider before you begin the project of adding an arbor or trellis to your yard.

The first question you must ask yourself is whether you want to build your arbor or trellis from scratch, or if you want to purchase a ready to assemble kit.  The former will certainly require more tools, knowledge, and time.  But for those who enjoy DIY projects and building in general, designing and building your own arbor or trellis can be rewarding.  On the other hand, arbor and pergola kits are readily available through many garden stores as well as catalog and online retailers.  These kits allow you to assemble your own arbor, pergola or trellis in a matter of days or even hours, providing a much faster means to an end.

If you are not someone who enjoys lengthy projects or building things, a ready to assemble kit is probably the better choice.  In some cases, the cost of a kit is comparable to what you’d spend if you built the arbor or pergola yourself.  The materials can be expensive, and when you factor in the cost of your own time, it may be well worth it to buy a kit and save yourself a lot of time and frustration.

The next question you must ask yourself is what type of arbor or trellis do you want?  What look are you trying to achieve?  Do you want a grand entrance to the garden area?  Or do you want a cozy nook within the garden itself?  If you want something that looks clean and sophisticated, you can’t beat the look of white vinyl.  It’s clean, contemporary, and many of the vinyl arbors and pergolas available today are virtually maintenance free.  A white vinyl arbor also makes a beautiful backdrop for an outdoor wedding!

Wood is another good option if you prefer a more rustic or natural look.  There are many choices available in wood arbors and trellises.  In general, steer away from pine and other soft woods that decay easily.  Redwoods like cedar are a very good option because they are naturally weather and decay resistant.

Lastly, metal is a good option if you want something extremely durable and long lasting.  There are many metal arbors and trellises on the market today.  Be careful what type of metal you choose, though.  Steel and iron are not the best choices, because rust can be an issue after a few years.  Aluminum is an excellent choice because it is lightweight, yet very durable, and it will not rust.  Also, look for a metal that is finished with powder coat paint, as this will be the most durable.

Whatever you choose, be sure to think your project out well in advance.  Projects that are started hastily will usually run into problems before they’re finished.  With a little forethought and preparatory planning, you’re sure to end up with a successful result that will add charm and character to your home for years to come.

I would love to try redwood plank for cooking food on in the oven?

I know that I can use oak or cedar, so I wonder if redwood will give off any taste or smell. I am of course planning to season the plank before using it. I am mostly concerned so it does not effect the edibility of the food.
Thanks.

How much should a wedding cost??

I want to have a wedding, both the ceremony and reception, at a bed and breakfast/small inn with gardens and a gazebo in VT or western NY. With 50 or so people, how much can I expect to pay altogether? My guy and I have different views on what is reasonable/doable. Thanks!
