When I took my family to California, we headed to Disney Land (my kids loved it) and glamorous hollywood! Both were great destinations because they aren’t too far from the beach! Hope that helps you!

I have seen Alcatraz from the shore, never been too, but seen and heard great things about the RNP. I have been to Lake Tahoe, loved it great for a family trip, absolutely love Yosemite, the best family trip.
Depending where you are coming in from, flying in? The drive along the coast hwy is so pretty.

Sorry to hear about the layoff. Totally sucks, and seems to be such a coommn theme these days. Great photos… looks like wonderful use of your wide angle lens.
What about the Santa Monica Pier? They even have some rides there as well.
I would definitely go see the RedWoods. 🙂
I don’t blame you for wanting to avoid the LA area. I lived there for 18 years until high school grad, then got the heck out of there. LOL
Yosemetie (sp?). I’ve been there back in the 80s, and I loved it. It’s a camping area, you can horseback ride, go climbing, there’s a creek there, and some other activities. Don’t remember where that’s located though. During that time, I didn’t drive, so didn’t pay much attention other than watching the beautiful scenery.
Actually, if I had the time, I would travel the highway that rides along side the beaches and then stop here and there to absorb the scenery, shop, etc.
I wish I had more for you to do. What about LegoLand? Not sure where that’s located.
If you like Magic Mountain/Six Flags, I’d go there. I love rollercoasters and that’s always a thrill! 🙂
Hope this helps some. You can try Googling California Entertainment and see what that brings up for you.
Have fun and be safe.
