Transportaion from LGA to Madison Square Garden?
If i’m arriving at LGA and staying at Holiday Inn Express near Madison Square Garden, what would be the best way?
I understand that I can take taxi, limo…etc but I was thinking taking public route like bus or the subway.
So if i take the bus, if someone can give me the exact route and what to take to get to the hotel. And also, i will be arriving on noon Friday and wondering how long it will take.
However, i will be carrying one luggage. so i’m not sure if the bus may be inconveninet as well.
this will be my first time in NY and i’m trying to save money and willing to sacrifice to certain degree but wish to enjoy the visit.
All your feedbacks would greatly be appreciated!
thank you!

LGA does not have a subway connect so you will have to choose between:
Taxi – most convenient
Express bus from LGA (New York Airport Service) will take you directly to Penn Station, which is next to/beneath Madison Square Garden.
You can also make the trip via MTA bus and subway but I would suggest that you take the express bus instead.

With a noon arrival at LGA you should be able to just beat rush hour into Manhattan.
There is an express bus that stops at every terminal in Laguardia except the Marine Air Shuttle. It costs about $12.00 one way to Penn Station and leaves about every half hour.
You can also take the number 33 bus to the last stop and go downstairs at the bus terminal (Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights, Queens) and take the Manhattan bound E train to 34th Street. The bus is $2.00 and so is the train. You can buy a metro card at vending machines inside each terminal which is my recommendation. Otherwise you’ll need $2.00 in change for the bus and you’ll need to buy a metrocard anyway to get on the train once you get to Roosevelt Avenue.
You can find metrocard pricing and transit options on 2nd link below.

As others have said– no subway.
Taking the airport express bus is a good option. You can buy your tickets at the ground transportation desk. They are 12$ each way. It will take you direct you Penn Station ( MSG). Should take anywhere from 40-60 mins depending on traffic and length of stops.
I wouldnt mess around with MTA busses. Sure its cheap, but it can take a long time and be very confusing if you are not used to it.
If its more then one person, you are better off taking a taxi sinec taxis dont charge per person.

Chanteuse_ar’s answer about MetroCard vending machines are wrong.
There are no MetroCard vending machine in airport terminals. It is served by Hudson Newstand.
There are three options you can do this.
All buses stop at Delta-Central Terminal/American Airlines while M60/Q48 serve all terminals from Delta-Marine Air terminals. Q47 from Marine Air Terminal.
If you see M60 first, take M60 bus to 125th St/Lenox Av, about 20-25 minutes. (Even with little traffic after Manhattan toll both, it’s still good.)
From there, take downtown 2/3 express to 34th St-Penn Station. (about 15-17 minutes).
If you see Q33 first, take that to last stop, 74th St-Bus Terminal/Roosevelt Av Subway Station. (About 25-minutes)
From there take Manhattan-bound (E) to 34th St-Penn Station. It takes 16 minute on (E).
If you are at Marine Air Terminal, take Q47 to same last stop as Q33.
If you see Q72, take Q72 to last stop, Rego Park Subway Station (about 33 minutes)
And take Manhattan-bound R or V to 34th St-Herald Sq (about 30-35 minutes)
My friend, save your $12 and take the bus to the subway. In reading your question, I’m assuming you’re going to the Holiday Inn Express Madison Square Garden, which is located at West 29th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. Here’s how to get there from LGA.
Step 1: purchase a $4 MetroCard from any newsstand at the airport and then take the M-60 bus to the Astoria Blvd subway station.
Step 2: at the Astoria Blvd, subway station, transfer to the "N" or "W" subway lines (Yellow Line on the subway map). Take Manhattan-bound train from Astoria Blvd to Times Square-42nd Street.
Step 3: at Times Square-42nd Street, transfer to the #1 line, (Red Line Local). Take the downtown (southbound) train from Times Square to 28th Street.
Step 4: at 28th Street, exit the subway and walk a block north, along 7th Avenue, from 28th to 29th Street. Then turn left at 29th Street and walk west a half block to the hotel. The hotel is on the south side of 29th Street.
The trip from LGA to MSG will take about 30 minutes.
I hope this information is very helpful. If you have any questions or need travel directions while in town, just drop me a line by clicking on the avatar and e-mail icon in the profile. I’ll be glad to help.
Good luck
